Project for Technology Development of Steam-spot Detection and Sustainable Resource Use for Large Enhancement of Geothermal Power Generation in Indonesia “Beneficial and Advanced Geothermal Use System (BAGUS)”
Beginning in 2015 through 2020, ITB with Kyoto University in collaboration with JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency) and JST (Japan Science and Technology Agency) conduct a cooperation research project in the field of geothermal development in Indonesia. This Project is implemented under the “Science and Technology Research Partnership for Sustainable Development (SATREPS)”, promoted by JICA and JST in collaboration. “SATREPS” aims to develop new technology and its applications for tackling global issues such as climate change, and also aims at capacity development of researchers and research institutes in both countries.
JICA will take necessary measures for the technical cooperation such as dispatch of Japanese experts, provision of equipment and training of counterpart personnel, and other supports related to the Project in Indonesia. JST will support the Japanese research institute/researchers for the project activities in Japan.
Under this framework, ITB and Kyoto University have started the collaborative research “BAGUS” Project officially since April 2015. Overall goal of the Project is: “Exploratory drilling cost at planned sites of geothermal power plant is reduced due to the application of the technologies developed.”
The Project leader of Indonesia side is Prof. Dr. Sudarto Notosiswoyo, Prof. of Earth Resources Exploration Research Group, Faculty of Mining and Petroleum Engineering, ITB, and the leader of Japan side is Prof. Dr. Katsuaki Koike, Laboratory of Environmental Geosphere Engineering, Department of Urban Management, Graduate school of Engineering, Kyoto University.
This collaborative research project is conducted not only by ITB and Kyoto University, but also with the important cooperation of Center for Geological Resources (CGR) Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, and Star Energy Geothermal Ltd.
